McLeod LAKE COMMUNITY WELLNESS CENTRE
This proposed facility is the culmination of the McLeod Lake Indian Band’s vision for a new Community Wellness Centre that brings their evolving health, administration, and community programs under one roof. Located in the main village of McLeod Lake IR#1, near the northern tip of McLeod Lake and approximately 140km north of Prince George, BC. The proposed site is situated between the existing AHDA Centre and MLIB Multiplex (Health/Admin/Gym), just a 5min drive from the main Highway 97.
Approaching from the West, one is greeted by a large canopy and array of Douglas fir columns. Immediately within, the lobby is punctuated by a distinct gathering space, and from here visitors make their way to either health, or community programs, and, after the completion of a future phase: band administration. Arranged around a courtyard, the health offices and accompanying programs have an abundance of natural light and selective visual relationships to its neighbouring programs. The community hall is nestled among a cultural display corridor, council chamber, and exercise room. The rear of the community hall opens into the landscape and provides shelter to seasonal outdoor activity space.
